As part of the Tulong Dunong Program, the local government of Miagao undertook a benchmarking activity from November 19 to 21, 2025, in Cebu City. This initiative coincided with relief operations aimed at supporting communities across Cebu Province severely affected by Typhoon Tino. Under the leadership of Mayor Richard Garin, the Miagao delegation sought to learn from the successful strategies implemented by other local government units (LGUs).
On November 19, 2025, the team visited the Municipality of Carcar, Cebu, where they were warmly received by Mayor Mario Patric. Carcar City, renowned as the Heritage City of the South, showcased its Community-Based Disaster Risk Program (CBDRP) best practices, which included:
– Providing subsidies to the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (BADAC)
– Offering financial assistance based on BADAC audit scores
– Awarding cash incentives of β±100,000 each to drug-cleared barangays.
In addition, Cebu Province shared its exemplary approaches in tourism development, highlighting efforts to promote its most frequented tourist destinations. These presentations offered valuable insights for Miagaoβs local government to enhance its disaster response and tourism initiatives effectively.
