On April 7, 2026, the local government unit, through its Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), in partnership with the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC), launched a membership drive aimed at establishing School-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils in several high schools across the town.
The event welcomed 140 participants representing various schools and community sectors. This training seeks to instill a strong sense of volunteerism and active participation among the younger generation, empowering them to take a proactive role in disaster preparedness and management within their communities. By engaging students early, the program hopes to build a culture of resilience and awareness that will benefit the entire municipality in times of emergency.
The initiative came in response to a request from Mayor Richard Garin to the PNRC. In his message, Mayor Garin expressed his heartfelt support for these efforts, emphasizing the importance of equipping the youth with knowledge and skills to effectively respond to disasters and contribute to the safety and well-being of Miagao’s residents.
