On January 9, 2026, about 197 residents of Miagao, known as the poorest in the area and enrolled in the Walang Gutom Program run by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, were provided with assistance to improve their access to essential food items. Each recipient was given goods valued at β±3,000, helping to ease immediate food shortages.
Under this initiative, those enrolled receive β±3,000 in monthly food credit through an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card. This card allows users to purchase specific healthy foods from participating stores, ensuring families have access to nutritious and affordable food.
The Walang Gutom Program is part of a broader effort to combat hunger and reduce poverty in the community by addressing the basic needs of low-income households. Through targeted support, the program aims to equip people with the resources they need, boost their overall health, and help residents become more food secure and resilient in difficult times.
