The School-Based Immunization (SBI) Program officially kicked off in the Municipality of Miagao with a ceremony held on August 26, 2025, at Guibongan Igtuba Elementary School. This event marked the renewed commitment of local health and education authorities to safeguarding the health of young learners through comprehensive vaccination efforts.
Led by the personnel of the Rural Health Unit, the program specifically targets Grade 1 and Grade 7 students, providing them with Measles-Rubella (MR) and Tetanus-Diphtheria (Td) vaccines.
These vaccinations are vital in preventing the spread of common yet serious illnesses among school-aged children.
A collaborative initiative between the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Health (DOH), the SBI program was designed to restore and strengthen immunization services that were significantly disrupted during the recent pandemic. Beyond vaccination, the program emphasizes securing parental consent and raising awareness among families and communities to ensure the success and sustainability of these health efforts. Through this partnership, Miagao aims to create a healthier environment for its learners, enabling them to pursue their education with fewer health-related interruptions.
