The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO) here led the Pre-Waste Analysis Characterization Study Activity (Pre-WACS) involving 119 barangays, conducted in close coordination and with the valuable assistance of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB).

The Pre-WACS Activity serves as a crucial component of the municipality’s comprehensive 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan. This initiative focuses on ensuring the proper and detailed segregation of waste at the barangay level, which is essential for effective waste disposal management and the promotion of innovative recycling methods. Through this process, the local government aims to identify the various types and quantities of waste generated, allowing for better planning and implementation of sustainable waste reduction strategies.

In a recent interview, Ms. Sheena Mae Nique of MENRO emphasized that the Solid Waste Management Plan is on track to be fully implemented by 2026. She highlighted the importance of community involvement and inter-agency cooperation in achieving the plan’s objectives, which include minimizing environmental impact, enhancing public health, and fostering a cleaner, greener municipality for future generations.
