Aguiauan’s former name was San Sebastian. It was named after Capitan Sebastian Fausa (1857-1858) who founded the place. Until 1889, it was an important barrio with a stone church built by Fray Angel Abasulo, parish priest.
The name Aguiauan derived from the dialect word gin-agihan, which means “has been passed.” During the Filipino-American War, Filipino insurgent used to pass this place in coming down from the mountain headquarters in Barrio Igcabugao, Igbaras.
Aguiauan also have local tourist attraction where the people visit during Holy week for the purposes of collecting medical herbs and oil and for nature tripping.
Barangay Aguiauan produces bamboo mats called sawali, sadok, salakot and grain containers called tabungos and malindog.
The now Aguiauan was one developing barangay in the entire municipality because of its surroundings which contribute to the development of it.

In the early times, Bakhaw trees were abundant in the coastal place. For these reasons, early residence called the place “Kabakhaman”. Later on, it was shortened to Bacauan.
Bacauan is among the earliest barangay in Panay. In the early 14th century, when Datu Sumakwel and other Bornean Datus went around to explore Panay to gather seeds for planting, they have Bacauan as one of their stop over.
According to the old folk, Bacauan has two sitios: Bantayanan and Melohot. During the time of Muslim pirates, there are people watching at the Bantayanan to watch the coming of the pirates. Once they saw the layag of the Moro Vinta, they blow the budyong to signal the coming of pirates and sound will reach to what is now called Melohot.
The other sitios are Baras, Durog, Sapa ni Lucia, kabilawan, Lipata, Tubudan, Durog ni Usay and Durog ni Osep.
Gregorio Fanega or known as “Gorio Damhag” was known as the hero of Bacauan, during the Spanish time and he received Php12.00 on his monthly pension.
During the Japanese time, many people were killed in Bacauan by the Japanese soldiers. They come from the other barangays.
Former heads of Barangay Bacauan were: Teniente Isidro “Orong” Moragriega, Tentiente Casimero “Meroy” Mines, Tentiente Lazaro Montevirgen, Tentiente Domingo “Inggo” Figura, Teniente Tomas Munion, Teniente Prudencio Nonato, Tentiente Jauncho Nadanga (1943-1947), Tentiente Eusebio Figura (1948-1951), Teniente Cayo Figura (1952-1955), Teniente mariano Morano (1956-1959),Moises Napuli (1960-1961), Santiago Nabo (1962-1963), Paulino Faicol (1964-1967). From 1968-1979 Vicente “Cente” Montevirgen served as Barangay Captain then Ernesto Nadanga, Juan Figura and again Ernesto Nadanga for almost three consecutive terms and at present is Benedicto Fillone serving as the Barangay Captain.
San Roque is the Patron Saint whose feast day is on 16th of August and Our Lady of Fatima whose feast day is on May 13.
Barangay Bacauan has produced a lot of professionals in different fields of education to make Bacauan more progressive and successful.

Before Spanish time, Barangay Bacolod was only the Sitio of Barangay Igpandan, houses of the people were located in the lower part of the hill. But when years passed, thieves became rampant and very destructive. They used to destroy houses by throwing big stones. Fearing that these thieves will attack them again people decided to transfer and built their houses on top of the hill and this was named “Bacolod” meaning buklod.
Since this place is on the top of the hill, Barangay Bacolod is the first stricken by the sunrays in the morning. This is surrounded by bamboos and other big tress even though this barangay is on the upper part. People have their own land to cultivate and different crops to harvest for their own living. As years passed, the barangay became populated, primary school was built and later became an elementary school as population grows. This school became the center of eight barangays.
Barangay Bacolod gradually became progressive. Barangay road was constructed by the Engineering Battalion, headed by 2nd Lt. Jose Magpantay in 1976. Then followed by the water system in the same year, which is a great help for the barangay folks, then in 1978 health center was also built. Three years after electricity reached this place and more projects were put up, like barangay market, barangay hall and the newly constructed health center and the multi-purpose pavement. Lately, the barangay high school was constructed and opened in 1996. These projects were accomplished through the support of the Sangguniang Barangay and the people of this place.
