MIAGAO, Iloilo, Sept. 27 — The local government unit (LGU) of Miagao is now releasing the allowances of Municipal Assistance to College Students (MACS) grantees.
Ms. Rhodora Napud, Municipal, Consultant on Education said that the 165 MACS grantees will receive the amount of P2,000.00 as payment for their transportation allowance for the months of August and September this year.
The release, facilitated by the Office of the Municipal Treasurer, is scheduled on a monthly basis provided that they have submitted their registration form as proof of enrollment and validated identification card.
MACS Program is a full scholarship grant to tertiary education to poor but deserving and qualified high schools Miagaowanon graduates.
It was implemented after the enactment of Ordinance No. 2013-40, “An Ordinance Establishing a Scholarship Fund for the Municipal Assistance to College Students (MACS) Program and Prescribing Qualifications and Selection Guidelines for Scholars Thereof.”
The program was established to provide a hybrid local scholarship program – partly need-based and partly merit-based, by giving opportunity to poor but deserving high schools graduates who are residents of the municipality to access college education.
It also aims to promote learning, enrich knowledge of students, improve human resources and eventually advance their quality of life.
The LGU has allotted funds for payment of matriculation and other miscellaneous fees of the grantees.
The program is in collaboration with the Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U) (formerly Southern Iloilo polytechnic College – Western Visayas College of Science and Technology) as the main partner institution.
In June, the applicants underwent series of qualifying activities to include written examination and interview.
Now on its 6th year, the program has produced 245 graduates from 2015-2019. (AG/Information Office)
