The Miagao Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) convenes in a regular meeting today to discuss issues and concerns on peace and order and public safety.   The MPOC is one of the local special bodies required under RA 7160 otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991.

Chaired by the Municipal Mayor, the Council’s primary duties and functions include:

  1. Recommend measures to converge and orchestrate internal security operations of civil authorities and agencies, military and police;
  2. Recommend measures which will improve or enhance peace and order and public safety including that of anti-insurgency;
  3. Recommend sanctions against Barangay Officials who is giving material and political support to the communist rebel, criminal syndicates and organizations; and
  4. Monitor the provisions of livelihood and infrastructure development program and projects in the remote rural and indigenous areas adopted to isolate them from the communist rebels.

The Members include LGU Department Heads, Sector Representatives, members of the academe, and the Philippine National Police and Philippine Army among others. (ABMande)
