Miagao’s Tribu Salakayan which depicted the spectacle of the “salakay” perpetrated by Miagaowanons versus the Moro marauders in a classic dance-drama, won the judges nod as the best entry in the regional competition of festivals held during the Kasadyahan Festival 2012 in Iloilo City recently.
The victory came sweeter as it was the first time that Tribu Salakayan participated in the Kasadyahan Festival, (a prelude to the grandiose Dinagyang Festival) besting 7 other participants in the region.
Tribu Salakayan brought home P125,000.00 first prize and bagged three major awards: Best in Performance, Best in Choreography, and Best Choreographer. Each major awards came with P10,000.00 prize.
Miagao’s tribe is bannered by students coming from Miagao National High School and SIPC/WVCST. They performed under the able support of the Miagao Local Government, Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC 6), Western Visayas College of Science and Technology, Miagao National High School and the Southern Iloilo Polytechnic College – WVCST Miagao campus.
With this triumph, Miagao confirms its Salakayan Festival as one of the bests in the region and also affirms the Miagaowanons passion for excellence.
